A young Concord boy has passed away after battling a rare form of cancer.

Elijah Aschbrenner has been battling Epitheliod Arcoma cancer since it was found in his neck in May 2014.

A post to the "Prayers for Elijah" Facebook page on Tuesday read, "At 10:52 p.m., my baby went to be with Jesus. Our lives will never be the same; but because of him our lives were forever changed."

On Wednesday the family posted to the page asking for prayers. The post read, "Please keep our family in your prayers in days and weeks ahead. Our hearts are aching but we know Elijah is already guiding and protecting us, especially Sam."

Cam Newton had a special relationship with Elijah and recently surprised him for his Halloween bash at the end of September. Click here to watch Newton talka bout Elijah on Wednesday.

Halloween was Elijah's favorite holiday and friends came together to celebrate in advance because doctors were unsure if he would make it to October 31st. Cam brought gifts for Elijah and the dozens of children who attended the event.

A private memorial will take place in the chapel of James Funeral Home. A "Celebration of the Days of Elijah" will be held at a later date, according to the funeral home.
