A plexiglass case will be installed to protect the Confederate monument at the Grady Cole Center after being vandalized multiple times.

The monument near CPCC is currently protected by plywood until the plexiglass case is complete.

A spokesperson for Mecklenburg County said after the second vandalism they needed a more permanent solution. Additional vandalism would make it harder and harder to clean and begin to impact the monuments' integrity. Their intent is to permanently protect the historical monument.

The Mecklenburg County spokespersons says the cost of the casing is $1,600  and coming out of the county budget. the new casing is expected to be completed early this week.
