Conover man plans to finish school after winning more than $180,000 in lottery

A Conover man who won more than $180,000 in the Cash 5 jackpot says he plans to use the money to finish his college education.

Darius Grant says it's been his dream to get to finish his education.

“School is expensive,” Grant said. “I had to stop because of financial reasons, but now I can go back and finish my sports management degree. It feels great to be able to do this.”

Grant’s got the lucky ticket from the Circle K on Conover Boulevard West. He found out he won just after midnight on Tuesday when he checked the numbers online.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” Grant said. “I just kept thinking, ‘I must be dreaming.’”

Grant claimed his prize later that same day at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. He took home a total of  $128,279 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

A new version of the Cash 5 game began in early November, which means starting jackpots are now $100,000. They will grow by at least $10,000 if no one wins.
