Crafty Charlotte group helps dogs stay warm this winter

The group, Fleeces for Fido, is making sure dogs at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control stay warm this winter.

The initiative is independent from the animal shelter’s normal operation.

Rachel Schul and Danielle Kleinrichert make up the volunteer group.

"It's another layer of enrichment and comfort for the dogs while they are waiting here for adoption,” said Kleinrichert.

"If someone sees a cute coat on a dog and it catches their eye and they take that dog home, that's wonderful," Schul said.

The kennels at the shelter allow dogs to walk inside and outside as they please. The floor of the kennels are heated.

The group has made more than 100 coats so far. Their goal is to make 300 coats this winter.

CMPD Animal Care and Control is accepting donations from anyone that wants to help their efforts.
