CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Pineville is among the top 10 most dangerous cities in North Carolina, according to analysts from Road Snacks who studied crime data from 2016.
Road Snacks, a website that ranks states and cities across the country, used a 2016 FBI report on crime data to name the ten riskiest cities to call home in the Tar Heel states, with one being the most dangerous.
**Note** The FBI periodically release crime stats to the public but does not ank cities based on those numbers
5. Forest City
9. Roanoke Rapids
Analysts with Road Snacks looked at two factors, property crimes per capita and violent crimes per capita, in all North Carolina cities with a population above 5,000. Durham does not report crime to the FBI so it's absent from the list, according to the report.
There were 393 crimes in Lumberton in 2016, meaning residents have a 1 in 55 chance of being raped, attacked, or killed, according to Road Snack's findings.
Kinston, one of the smallest cities on the list, saw 257 violent crimes between 2014 and 2016, and Goldsboro residents have a 1 in 18 chance of being the victim of a property crime and a 1 in 92 chance of being the victim of a violent crime.
The same data was used to determine the 10 safest cities in North Carolina:
2. Holly Springs
Crime data for the previous year is released from the FBI in October of the year following it. Crime data from 2017 will be released in October 2018.
