Critics, Supporters of Obama's Gun Control Plan React in Charlotte

President Obama's message on gun control Tuesday is being received in different ways in the Charlotte region.

Critics say gun control isn't the answer and tougher laws won't keep people who are determined to commit crimes from getting guns.

Larry Hyatt, owner of Hyatt Gun Shop on Wilkinson Boulevard, says, “Gun control is not going to help terrorism, and it’s not going to do much for a crazy person that doesn’t care if he dies when he commits his crime. We saw that in Paris where there’s virtually no private ownership. We saw it in California, which has the strictest gun laws in the country.”

However, Malcolm Graham, the brother of Cynthia Hurd, one of the victims in the Charleston church shooting massacre, says President Obama's plan is a step in the right direction. Graham said, “I just call on congressmen, Democrats and Republicans, to do what's in the best interest of the country and not do what they think is in the best interest of the NRA.”
