Cyclist killed in east Charlotte car crash, driver charged

CMPD responded to a fatal accident Sunday morning involving two cars and a bike.

The crash happened at the intersection of Parkwood Avenue and Hawthorne Lane. Medic pronounced the bicyclist, Alfred Gorman deceased at the scene.

Nathaniel Lancaster was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger pick-up westbound on Parkwood Avenue and attempting to turn left onto Hawhtorne Lane on a flashing yellow arrow. Shakeisha Lowery was driving eastbound on Parkwood Avenue. Police say Manson turned left into the path of Lowery and hit the left side of Lowery's Lexus causing it to spin out of control. Gorman was heading eastbound on Parkwood Avenue. The right side of Lowery's Lexus hit Gorman's bike from behind. CMPD says Lowery and a passenger were taken to CMC Main with minor injuries. Lancaster was not injured.

The bicyclist was in the curb lane and not wearing a helmet, according to CMPD.

Lancaster was charged with misdemeanor by vehicle and failure to yield at intersection. He is in custody of CMPD. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Detective R.C. Gormican, CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-336-3229 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
