DA: Huntersville dance teacher pleads guilty to sexual assault

A Huntersville dance instructor pled guilty Monday for one count of second-degree sexual assault.

Steven "Eddie" Mabry was arrested in March and charged with 10 counts each of indecent liberty and statutory sexual offense, according to the Mecklenburg Co. District Attorney.

Abuse happened at Mabry's dance studio (Eddie Mabry Talent) in Fort Mill and at his home in Huntersville, according to Mecklenburg Co. District Attorney.

Mabry was charged in Mecklenburg and York County.

He took an Alford plea where he accepted fault but didn't have to outright say he was guilty. The 19 other charges were dropped in Mecklenburg County as part of the plea deal after his court appearance Wednesday.

Mabry admitted to guilt in Mecklenburg County Court.

The abuse started when the victim was 14. The victim was wired with a camera and microphone and confronted Mabry as part of the investigation. Mabry confessed to accusations in the recording.

He also confessed to giving the boy drugs and alcohol. Mabry's been sentenced to up to 9 years in jail and will have to register as a sex offender when he is released.
