Dale Jr: 'He's telling me that this is possible again and I believe it'

We're just two races away from the start of the chase. But the big story in NASCAR is the health of it's most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He's missed the last 6 races recovering from concussion like symptoms and recently announced he wouldn't race the rest of 2016.

Sunday he took the mic at Darlington for the first time since making that announcement.

Jr. told FOX 46 Charlotte his recovery is going well and he's starting to see improvements. But he did say, "I don't belong in a race car today by any stretch of the imagination."

Which gives you an indication of the severity of his current condition. But this isn't the end for Jr. he does plan to compete again.

"We went through this process in 2012, it was very scary and difficult. Mickey told me that I would one day be well and I would win races again and he was right, he's telling me that this is possible again and I believe it," Dale Earnardt Jr. said.

Alex Bowman and Jeff Gordon will split time the rest of the season filling in for Dale in the number 88 Chevy.
