Dates for 2020 Republican National Convention set, committee preparing

It's all eyes on Charlotte as the official dates for the Republican National Convention have been set.

The convention will be held August 24-August 27, 2020.

"We look forward to showcasing Charlotte," said RNC Chairwoman Donna McDaniel.

The spotlight will be on the Queen City in 2020.

"We are actually excited about the opportunity," said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles.

People from all over will be gathering in Charlotte for the RNC.

"What's really exciting to me, is we get to be front and center when we re-nominate Donald Trump and Mike Pence as President and Vice President of the United States," said Republican Representative Richard Hudson.

Charlotte will soon be one of just eleven cities that will have played host to both the democratic and republican national conventions.

"We are a democratic nation," said Lyles. "So it gets to be an opportunity for Charlotte to brag that we can host both the republican and democratic conventions."

"The DNC brought in over $160 million worth of economic activity to our region," said Republican Representative Patrick McHenry.  "We anticipate even more as a result of this convention in the lessons we learned hosting that convention."

Now that dates have been announced, offices across the Queen City will be set up quickly to work with local city government.

The committee will be working with local law enforcement to ensure a safe few days on the ground.
