Dates set for Charlotte-based 2020 Republican National Convention

The dates for the 2020 Charlotte-based Republican National Convention were announced Monday.

The Queen City will be one of only 11 cities that will have hosted both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

“We are very excited about this opportunity," Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said.

The 2020 RNC will be held from Aug. 24 to Aug. 27, 2020, at the Spectrum Center in uptown Charlotte.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) says hosting the RNC will bring an economic boom to Charlotte.

The Queen City beat out Las Vegas to serve as host after city council narrowly approved a bid to welcome the convention.
