Lincoln County Sheriff's Office

A former childcare worker with ties to the Lincoln Cultural Center has been suspended following allegations of misdemeanor child abuse.

"Due to the unfortunate circumstances, pending the outcome of the charges against Rebecca DeGregory, we must suspend her involvement at the Lincoln Cultural Center and/or with our member groups," Lincoln Cultural Center Board Chair, Christine Poinsette, released in a statement.

DeGregory is accused of pulling the hair of an 18 month-old child that was in her care at Mini Academy Daycare in Denver, NC on March 23.

The 23-year-old was suspended and then terminated from the daycare center by the owner the same day the alleged incident occurred. She was charged with one misdemeanor count of child abuse and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. Her court date is set for Friday, April 6.

DeGregory served as vice president of Children's Programs for the Lincolnton Theater Guild, which is affiliated with and receives funding from the Lincoln Cultural Center. She has since stepped down.
