Deadly overnight shooting leaves police looking for suspect

A man is dead following on overnight shooting in southwest charlotte.

An overnight shooting has left one dead and police searching for a suspect.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 2 a.m. on Sunday morning nearby Minuet Lane in the southwest Charlotte area, police say.

The victim, later identified as 28-year-old Ernest Stewart, was found about a block away from where the apparent shooting took place.

Stewart was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It is unclear whether Stewart and the shooter were acquaintances.

As of 7 a.m. detectives were still interviewing witnesses to try to find the suspect.
