Schools across our area are still recovering from yesterday's strong storms that left many buildings with damage and without power.

Alexander County Schools will be closed on Wednesday. The school system released a statement explaining the decision saying:

Due to the extreme storm damage, downed power lines, limited bus routes, two schools and many residents still without power in the western part of the county, Alexander County Schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, October 25. Staff will have an optional workday reporting to work at the regular time. Thank you for your understanding as we get our county, students, and residents the assistance they need during this time of hardship.

Burke County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, except for Hildebran Elementary School and Ray Childers Elementary School which will remain closed due to lack of power.

Hickory Public Schools will also operate on a two-hour delay  This decision may change in the morning since power pending power restoration for Hickory High and Hickory Career Arts & Magnet School.

Caldwell County Schools will operate on a regular schedule tomorrow, but there will be limited bus transportation in the following areas due to clean-up efforts: Gold Creek, North Lakes, South Lakes, Charlie Little Rd. and Grace Chapel Rd. (from Hickory Blvd. to Rocky Mount Rd.)
