Deputies: Lincoln County man assaulted, shot at girlfriend

A Lincoln County man has been arrested after deputies say he choked his girlfriend and then fired a weapon at her following a heated domestic dispute.

The victim went to the Lincoln County Magistrate's Office seeking help. When deputies arrived to talk to her she told them that she and Robert Lee Waldroup, 49, got into an argument when she came home. She said the argument escalated and turned into a physical fight.

She told deputies that Waldroup struck hit her several times and tried to choke her. She grabbed a few items from the house  in the 7400 block of Henry Rd. and in the process of leaving Waldroup allegedly pointed a pistol at her and fired.

Deputies took the woman’s statement and went to the home to serve Waldroup with warrant.

Waldroup was taken into custody. He told deputies he didn't own or have a gun in the home, but following a search deputies found the pistol under the bed in the bedroom. Two rounds had been discharged.

Waldroup was charged with one count each of discharging a firearm and assault by strangulation. He was also charged with misdemeanor assault on a female. He is being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
