Deputy injured in Lincoln County chase

A Lincoln County deputy was injured in a chain reaction crash that occurred early Wednesday while chasing two suspects.

Law enforcement was involved in a vehicle pursuit on Business Highway 16 near Unity Church Road when the first patrol car slowed down. The next two units were unable to slow and all three collided.

The injured deputy was transported to the hospital with a leg injury.

Other officials continued the chase. A short time later, the suspects crashed their own vehicle as they drove  through a construction zone on the Highway 150 East bridge over Lake Norman. The two suspects left their vehicle and jumped into the lake, where they were taken into custody after swimming back to shore.
