PAGELAND, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) -- Someone shot a dog and left it to die on the side of the road Thursday night in Chesterfield County, according to authorities.

The dog was found about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Peach Orchard Road and John Miller Road in Pageland, SC.

Chesterfield County Animal Services (CCAS) said the dog, a male tan lab mix, was shot twice in the abdomen and the chest area. When they arrived the dog was dead.

A witness told CCAS officers an old rusty Ford pickup stopped on the side of the road, the driver got out and two gunshots were heard. The man then got back into his truck and drove off. The witness said they saw the dog, still alive laying on the side of the road.

It is unclear if the dog was taken there by the shooter or was on the side of the road to begin with.

Anyone with information is asked to call CCAS at 843-517-9888 or the animal shelter at 843-623-3585.
