The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close some lanes on I-85 near mile marker 25 in Gaston county overnight to work on road issues that may have contributed to accidents in the area.
The right and center lanes of I-85 southbound will close Wednesday at 8 p.m. and reopen Thursday at 6 a.m. The on-ramp will also be closed.
Crews will fix a part of the highway where underground water has been seeping to the surface of the interstate. Some motorists say the area is well known for accidents. NCDOT began looking into this stretch of highway after a fatal accident in January.
