A fatal car crash involving a garbage truck on South Tryon Street has left one person dead.

A serious car accident on South Tryon street has left one person dead Saturday, authorities said.

The incident occurred nearby South Tryon and Nevada Boulevard and involved a garbage truck. One person was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Toxicology reports are pending but there is suspicion that alcohol may have been a factor, police say. The D.W.I. task force was on the scene investigating.

Officers responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. about an unresponsive man, Colby Davis, who was in a Toyota Camry that had collided with a garbage truck.

Both drivers were said to have been wearing seatbelts and that speed was not a factor.
