An elderly man was shot after a police-involved shooting in Lancaster Friday morning, state officials confirm.

Lancaster Police Department officers were called to a home on Magnolia Lane shortly after 8 a.m. for a man in distress. The man, identified as 60-year-old Melvine Trousdale, was not taking his needed medication, according to the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Three officers responded and at some point Trousdale was injured in a police-involved shooting. It was not immediately clear who fired the shot or shots that struck Trousdale.

Trousdale has transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment. His family says he's in surgery. His condition was not immediately known.

Officers are not saying why they were initially called out to the scene.

SLED is leading the investigation. A spokesperson for SLED says it'll report to the solicitor, who will then decide whether or not there was excessive forced used in this incident.
