FORT MILL, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Electrical problems are likely the cause of a large fire at a historic church Sunday night in Fort Mill.
The church's pastor, Mark Diehl, told FOX 46 Charlotte the fire was related to an electrical problem in the church's Unity Hall. The building was built more than 100 years ago.
Diehl said, despite possible reports suggesting otherwise, they do not have the total cost of damage.
Flames were spotted shooting up through the roof of Unity Presbyterian Church on Tom Hall Street earlier this week. Pastor Diehal said the building has to be gutted now, after the fire damaged an old part of the sanctuary, making a mess of a beloved piece of history.
The church will be holding two vigils Thursday, one at 1 p.m. and another at 7 p.m., for people who want to pray for the church, Pastor Diehl said.
The church still plans on having Sunday services in a different part of the church. Sunday School will be cancelled.
