After speculation Facebook was developing a "dislike" button received much fanfare, the popular social networking site's true intentions have come to light.
The eleven year old site has released animated "emotion" smileys in select countries. Worldwide rollout is expected following testing in those select areas.
The "emotions," which play off of the ever-so-popular emojis, will allow users to express more feelings toward a posting. The animations compliment the site's long-staple: the like button.
"We studied which comments and reactions are most commonly and universally expressed across Facebook, then worked to design an experience around them that was elegant and fun," Chief Product Officer for Facebook Chris Cox said in a Facebook post.
Emotions will allow users to share sadness, frustration and other emotions not typically perceived with a standard "like" button.
Facebook users in Spain and Ireland are the first to test the product, which will soon be rolled out to other locations.
