Family and friends of a 28-year-old Charlotte woman are devastated after her life came to a tragic end Sunday.

Kelli Putnam was walking along side South Blvd near Remount Road when police say she was hit by a speeding car with a driver who was allegedly drunk.

A makeshift memorial made up of flowers and balloons now sits where Putnam tragically lost her life as her family remembers her as a fun-loving, sweet and beautiful soul.

"You could be having a bad day and see her and she would just light up your day,” said Putnam’s Aunt Ada Burnett.

Police say Putnam was walking on a sidewalk on the southbound side of South Blvd when she stepped into the road and was hit by a 2014 Black AUDI S4 being driven by 30-year-old Gregory Wheeling.

Just hours before she had been happily spending her day watching the Panthers play the Seahawks with her boyfriend Bronsyn. She beamed with excitement at the game in a photo she sent to her family and friends, giving them one last flash of her radiant smile.

“She had that happiness about her,” said Burnett. “It shined from her. Her mother describes it best on Facebook, she said, 'I've lost my sunshine.’"

Putnam’s sunshine was also evident at work, where she was a waitress at Mac's Speed Shop and even starred in one of the restaurant chain's commercials. But with all she had going for her, her aunt says she always put family first.

"She loved her sisters, her brothers,” Burnett said. “She just enjoyed everyone."

Putnam will be laid to rest near her family in New York. The driver of the car that hit her has been charged with driving while impaired and aggravated felony death by vehicle.
