LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The father of a teenager accused of accidentally shooting a 15-year-old with a shotgun has been charged in connection to the incident, police said.
A criminal summons was served this week to Jerry Lee McVey, 49, of Denver. He is facing one misdemeanor count of storage of firearms to protect minors. McVey is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County District Court on November 17.
Deputies were called to a mobile home park in the 7600 block of Campground Road around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, October 22, when one of the teens ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
Detectives said a group of about five teens were playing a game they described as "trying to get through the door into the mobile home." A 15-year-old boy was entering the mobile home when a 14-year-old boy fired a shot from a 12-gauge shotgun.
The blast from about three feet away grazed the teen’s chest, went through the wall of the mobile home and into an outbuilding. There were no adults at the mobile home when the incident occurred.
Lincoln County EMS transported the victim to CHS-Main where he was treated for his injuries and released to his parents. Three other teens witnessed the incident.
The Juvenile Justice office has been notified about the incident.
