Fire damages popular Mooresville restaurant

A popular Mooresville restaurant remains closed after a kitchen fire Saturday afternoon.

Caution tape, an empty parking lot and chains on the door greeted customers Sunday at Fatboys Restaurant and Catering.

A blue tarp also covered a portion of the restaurants roof and remnants of the building were scattered in the alley behind the restaurant.

It's a disappointment for regular customers who say it's their go-to restaurant for good food and family gatherings.

"It's devastating,” said Lavender Parker, who met her husband at Fatboys three years ago. “I’m just thankful nobody was hurt and just hope and pray that they get everything worked out and everything comes into place so that they can get back open real soon."

"We don't know where to start to look for somebody else,” said Bill Hicks, who regularly uses Fatboys catering service. “They gotta be back."

Fatboys is family owned and operated. Dane mills is the current owner. Mills' mother opened the restaurant in 1967. It's future remains uncertain.
