A fire damaged a historic church in Fort Mill on Sunday.

Around 10:00 p.m. the Fort Mill Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the Unity Presbyterian Church at 303 Tom Hall St.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire that had spread to the first and second floors of the church.

As crews were working to put out the flames, a roof collapsed and all firefighters were evacuated from the church. Flames were seen shooting from the roof.

Multiple tower ladders were used and hundreds of gallons of water had to be poured. Neighboring fire departments also responded to the scene.

Members of the church say the building was about 200 years old. They say there was a new portion of the church and the old portion of the church, but at this time it's unclear in what section the fire started or what section was destroyed.
