Firefighter suffers minor injures in east Charlotte fire

A Charlotte firefighter has been transported to the hospital with minor injuries following a structure fire at Camp Stewart on New Year's Day.

The fire started Monday afternoon at Camp Stewart located at 5501 Camp Stewart Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had blocked both directions of Camp Stewart Road from Stewart's Crossing Drive to Harrisburg Road to assist fire tankers that were needed due to no fire hydrants on the property.

Charlotte Fire said 27 firefighters controlled the incident within an hour. One of their own was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
