A massive fire broke out at the Burke County landfill Wednesday.

The fire sparked from a pile of brush 30-35 feet high, it was about an acre-wide. Seven fire units were dispatched.

The fire is contained, but officials are unsure when it will be completely extinguished. "It will probably still be burning at this time tomorrow," Burke County Fire Marshall, Mike Long said.

No serious injuries were reported and one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. There is no threat to surrounding residential areas, according to Long.
