Flu activity increasing, CDC reports

Flu activity has increased in the past weeks, and its led to schools being shut down in at least 12 states, including North Carolina. 

The CDC reports that 45 states reported an increase in widespread flu activity, and another two child flu deaths were reported bringing the total number to 24 for the 2018-2019 flu season. 

There have been as many as 11.4 million flu illnesses, 5.4 million medical visits and 136,000 flu hospitalizations between October 1, 2018 and January 19, 2019. 

The CDC says they expect flu activity to remain elevated for a number of weeks, and continues to encourage everyone to get a flu shot.
