YORK COUNTY, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A former York County Sheriff's detention officer is accused of abusing a vulnerable adult who was in her care.
Patricia Elizabeth Brookhart, 67, turned herself in to the Moss Justice Center Wednesday after allegations surfaced in October 2018 of abuse of Brookhart's brother by the Department of Social Services.
DSS reported the brother said he was hit with a belt and the home he was living in was filled with clutter. Brookhart is the primary caregiver of her brother, according to investigators.'
"These allegations are disheartening and disturbing and certainly do not reflect the character and integrity required of and displayed by the many faithful employees of the York County Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Kevin Tolson.
Brookhart was placed on suspension and later resigned from the sheriff's office on Oct. 8, 2018. She was charged with one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult.
