Former South Point teacher accused of sexual relationship with student

A former South Point teacher has been accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her students.

The Gaston County Police began investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct by a female teacher with a male student at the high school in October.

Police say the allegation include a sexual relationship prior to graduation in the spring of 2015.

Teika Watkins Helton was charged Monday with one count of sexual activity  between school personnel and a student.

The incident happened in the third week of May 2015 and prior to the victim's graduation, according to police. The student was a senior at the time.
