STATESVILLE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A former Statesville school employee is facing more than 70 charges after he was accused of sexually assaulting a student at a school multiple times.
Derone Martin McNeill, 47, has been charged with 26 counts of second-degree rape, 26 counts of forcible sex offense and 26 counts of sexual activity with a student.
Statesville Police say a report was submitted to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office on March 7 alleging that McNeill had sexually assaulted a student while he was working at Statesville Christian School in 2012. The report was forwarded to the police department and an investigation was launched.
Following the investigation, police say the assaults began in February 2012 and went until May 2014. He was arrested on Tuesday, March 26. Additional charges could be coming from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
McNeill was employed by Pressly Alternative School, but was placed on leave immidiately after the school was made aware of the sexual assault investigation.
