Gaston Co. man arrested on heroin charges

The Gaston County Police Department arrested a local man on multiple drugs charges after they said he was found with 27 grams of heroin in his possession. 

Officers said they obtained a search warrant on Geer Street in Lowell, North Carolina following an extensive investigation. 

As a result of the search warrant, investigators found 27 grams of heroin, one strip of Fentanyl, 23 dosage units of alprazolam (generic Xanax), and in excess of  $2,000 of U.S. Currency inside the residence.

On Tuesday, August 30, police arrested the homeowner, Edward Ray Scruggs Jr., and charged him with level II trafficking of heroin by possession and level II trafficking of heroin by manufacture.

Scruggs Jr. is currently being held at the Gaston County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond.

More charges are expected to be filed in this case as the investigation continues.
