Gaston County pastor accused of sexually assaulting children at church

A Gaston County pastor has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple children while at church. 

According to Gaston County Police, the alleged incidents occurred on church property and at private homes in the area. Jerry Lewis Friday, 61, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at his home along Myrtle School Road in Gastonia on multiple sex-related offenses.

Friday is the pastor at New Providence Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, police said. 

He is charged with one count of felony statutory sex offense, four counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, one count of felony disseminating obscene material to a minor, and two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

Multiple victims were identified during the investigation and all were juveniles at the time of the offense, police said. Friday is currently being held at the Gaston County Jail without bond.
