Gastonia man charged after police say he killed neighbor

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A 48-year-old Gastonia man is accused of shooting his wife in the face and killing his next-door neighbor on New Year's Day.

Gastonia police have charged Joseph M. Zinna with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities say Zinna went to his neighbor's house and shot Mark Anthony Sheridan Sr., 62, more than once with a 12-gauge shotgun at 2041 Jefferson Ave.

Sgt. Nancy Capistran with Gastonia Police says Sheridan died at his home on Friday evening.
Arrest warrants confirm Zinna also fired into a moving vehicle at his wife, Candy Zinna, who suffered wounds to her face and neck. Police say she was treated and released from a Charlotte hospital.  
Police have not said which victim was shot first.

Zinna's first court appearance is scheduled Monday, Jan. 4. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.
