Getaway driver in violent Gaston County armed robbery in custody

The getaway driver involved in a violent armed robbery where a mother and son were pistol-whipped inside a Gaston County gas station is now in custody, according to jail records. 

Dustin Lama Bingham, 21, is charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon intent to conspire, and possession of stolen property. 

The armed robbery happened Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Mini Mart located at 719 McAdenville Road in Lowell. Surveillance video showed the suspect pistol-whipping the cashier and her 19-year-old son. The woman's 4-year-old grandson was present at the time.

Lowell police have not yet arrested the person involved in the attack and robbery inside the gas station. They said the vehicle involved in the robbery was found abandoned in Gastonia. Police believe the vehicle was carjacked just days before.
