LANSING, Mich. - A U.S. postal worker is accused of stealing cash and gift cards from mail that she was supposed to deliver, according to a WILX report.
Shamick Jones was charged and indicted on Dec. 18 in the U.S. District Court Southern Division of the Western District of Michigan on the charges of theft of mail contents by a postal service employee.
Jones was a rural carrier associate for the USPS in Holt when she stole the money and gift cards, according to court documents.
"The defendant opened greeting card envelopes and stole gift cards and cash from those envelopes which had come into her possession, and which were intended to be conveyed by mail," according to the documents obtained by WILX.
If convicted, Jones faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine and mandatory restitution. For more on this story, click here.
