GOP candidates squaring off for Round 2 debate

The top-polling Republican presidential candidates were squaring off Wednesday night for their second debate – and for many, their second shot at a breakout moment as Donald Trump continues to dominate the field.

With Trump soaring high in the polls, the debates are for now more a battle for runner-up status, than front-runner.

As the billionaire businessman likes to remind people: he's "not going anywhere." This leaves the rest of the field of 15 candidates to jockey for position and find their stride as the Trump alternative in the 2016 presidential campaign.

After an earlier undercard debate Wednesday evening, the 11 top-polling candidates are on the main CNN debate stage, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.
