A Rock Hill woman is facing charges in connection to the death of her 3-year-old grandchild.

Tracy Helms Schroeder, 48, of Rock Hill, is accused of lying to DSS about being the main caregiver for her granddaughter, Lillian, according to Lancaster Police. Schroeder was taken into custody Friday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Lancaster police arrested and charged, 25-year-old Kayla Marie Cook, in December with homicide by child abuse. Lillian was in Cook's care at the time.

In December, police say they found Lillian on her back in the living room unconscious and without a pulse. All efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. The cause of death was swelling of the brain due to blunt force trauma to the head along with bleeding in the abdomen.
