Half of unclaimed Powerball ticket in Cherryville given to education fund

The funds of an unclaimed $1 million Powerball ticket in Cherryville will be split in half between an education fund and the lottery games after no one came forward, according to the Director of Communication for the NC Education Lottery.

The ticket was purchased at the Murphy USA station in Cherryville back in January, but it expired Monday, July 27.

The winning numbers were 12, 24, 35, 36, and 49. North Carolina Education Lottery officials reminded people in Cherryville to check their tickets. Players have 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
