Huge fire erupts on I-73 in Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A tractor-trailer hauling fuel erupted into fire Thursday morning in Guilford County, sending a plume of smoke and flame above Interstate 73.
The wreck happened about 7:33 a.m. on I-73 in Greensboro near the Holden Road exit, according to the Greensboro Fire Department.
It's unclear if anyone was injured.
Highway Patrol closed I-85 in both directions at mile marker 120 in Guilford County. I-73 south at the I-40 split is also closed.
Renee Beck was on I-73 and drove past the flames.
"I could feel the heat inside my car when I went past it. I just prayed that anyone involved was ok," Beck told FOX 46. "It even shot fire balls all down the side of the highway for a ways away."
Troopers advise drivers to take I-73 north to travel through the area.
