CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The controversial Interstate 77 Toll Lane Project is hitting another speed bump. Officials confirm to FOX 46 that the project will not open by the end of the year as previously planned.
According to I-77 Mobility Partners, the delays are due to additional work added to the project since the original contract was signed.
The entire 26 miles of toll lanes won't open until the middle of 2019. Officials say they are still working towards the goal of opening express lanes on the northern part of the project by the end of the year.
NCDOT says the $10,000 a day fine was supposed to start on January 7, 2019 for delays, but since additional work was added to the project, that date has been pushed back to November 2019.
