MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - An injured seal pup that spent hours laying on the sand in Myrtle Beach is now back home.
According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the injured seal was able to rest and was returned to the ocean around 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
"We want to say thank you to everyone who reached out with concerns for the harbor seal who swam up on shore. The pup has been checked out by marine biologists from Coastal Carolina University and a veterinarian," Myrtle Beach Police wrote on Facebook. "At this time the pup appears to be in good health and he or she will be monitored throughout the day and night."
The police kept an eye on the seal pup until it eventually headed back into the ocean.
“A lucky escape from a predator required a long rest and we are happy to report a safe return home,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for visiting, we hope you enjoyed our beach.”
Another seal was spotted on Sunday, Dec. 23 around 10 p.m. authorities confirm.
