Investigators: Murder of Charlotte businessman in Lake Wylie Not a Random Act

The York County Sheriff's Office spokesman tells Fox 46 News the murder of a well-known Charlotte businessman who was found dead in his Lake Wylie home was not a random act.

Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Pine Moss Lane in Clover, SC Wednesday afternoon to investigate the death of 64-year-old Jesse Campbell.

When deputies arrived they say they found Campbell deceased from an apparent gunshot wound in his home.

Those who knew him say he will best be remembered for his passion and his green thumb.

He owned Campbell's Greenhouse and Nursery and Dilworth's Little Secrets in Charlotte.

After battling cancer twice and surviving a major heart scare, friends of Campbell say he was a strong person and are shocked to see this happen to him

Friends came together Thursday afternoon to lay a wreath and flowers at his Greenhouse.

Fox 46 News spoke with George Dizes, who owns Mr. K’s, a restaurant next door to Campbell’s greenhouse. Dizes said, “I was shocked, to say the least. It still hasn’t hit home. You’re just so used to seeing somebody for all these years, and all of a sudden they’re gone. and you realize they’ll never be back.”

Officials say they are continuing to investigate and waiting for the results of the autopsy.
