Kidnapping suspect involved in nearly 5-hour standoff taken into custody

Gaston County Police

The Gaston County Police Department has taken a suspect into custody following a nearly five-hour long standoff Monday at a Dallas home. Police said the suspect, Christopher Donald Hibberts, 27, was wanted on kidnapping and assault charges.

On Monday, April 23, Hibberts was tracked down to a home in the 1700 block of Old Spencer Mountain Road. Gaston County Police K9 Officers attempted to confront Hibberts, but he ran into the home and barricaded himself inside.

The Gaston County Police Emergency Response Team responded and tried multiple methods to get him to come outside. Hibberts would not surrender and after about five hours forceful entry was made into the home. Hibberts was found in 'a hiding place' and arrested without incident.
