The stepfather of Kilah Davenport has pleaded guilty to her murder, the Union County District Attorney's office announced. Joshua Houser pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder Wednesday in the March 2014 killing of Davenport.

Houser was convicted of felony child abuse in February. He was sentenced to 7-10 years in prison for the child abuse charge. An autopsy showed the toddler died of pneumonia as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. Authorities say she got the head injury when Houser threw her into a wall in 2012. Davenport was four years old when she died.

Kilah's family has successfully pushed for tougher penalties against those convicted of abuse at the state and federal level.
