The Lincoln County Director issued a swimming advisory for Lake Norman Wednesday.

1,000 gallons of sewage spilled after a mechanical failure at a lift station in Denver. The spill leaked into the cove, according to the director.

The Lincoln County Public Works Department is taking water samples to find out the level of potential bacterial infection into the lake.

The health director is advising all residents and boaters that the area may be contaminated with fecal coliform.

The department will continue to test the water and notify the public when it safe to swim again.
