A man accused of causing a small explosion Thursday that started a fire at a popular tree on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been identified, according to WRAL.
Joshua Edwards, 24, of Lexington, is accused of detonating a device at the the bottom of a tree at Davie Poplar in McCorkle Place. No charges have been filed at this time.
Video of the scene shows a flames going up a tree near where the device went off. A professor at the university who tried to put the fire out was burned on his face and arms. That professor is expected to be alright, but will have to undergo surgery.
Part of Cameron Avenue had to be closed off Thursday due to the incident.
