LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A Lincoln County man is facing a slew of charges after he stole a pickup truck and led deputies on a short foot chase before being taken into custody, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were patrolling the area near the Dollar General in Crouse when they noticed a pickup truck similar to a vehicle stolen on Saturday.
Deputies said they parked nearby to see who was driving the vehicle and that's when Matthew Hugh Black, 37, of Lincolnton, walked out of the store.
Black reportedly saw the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office patrol car and attempted to run away but was quickly taken into custody. Deputies said several items Black had stolen from the Dollar General were recovered and returned to the store. The 1993 Ford Ranger was seized and returned to the owner.
Black is charged with felony possession of stolen goods, felony possession of heroin, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, injury to personal property, resist-delay-and obstruct a public officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and two outstanding warrants for failure to appear.
Black is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $21,500 secured bond.
