CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - At least three schools were on lockdown Friday after students at Garinger High School walked out of the building in protest, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
About 100 students walked out of the school protesting immigration policies, officials said.
The lockdown was put in place due to a nearby shooting incident at an apartment complex off Audrey Street.
Martin Luther King Hr. Middle School, Hidden Valley Elementary, Eastway Middle School were placed on lockdown as well - but for the students getting their message out was their priority.
School officials said everyone is safe.
